Maker's story
Loewe Foundation Craft Prize finalists Blast Studio aim to explore how nature and technology can be put in dialogue in order to transform cities’ discarded material into artefacts and architecture. The design studio was founded in 2018 by Paola Garnousset, Martin Detoeuf and Pierre de Pingon.

THE PROCESS
Blast Studio collect discarded coffee cup waste across London to repurpose as the pulped material with which they create their Coral Lighting Collection. Once shaped using a custom mould, the pulp hardens through a slow drying process to make a strong biomaterial.
